If you’ve always wanted to try your hand at writing a play or you’re looking to expand your perspectives this course is for you. The aim of the course will be to give you the tools to take a story from start to finish.

Each class will be very active including writing exercises, workshop games and collective brainstorming. We’ll cover topics like…

What kind of structure do stories often have?

What forms can plays take?

What makes a character engaging to watch?

What can you do when you don’t know what happens next?

This course is focused on playwriting but most of the principles also apply to any kind of writing or storytelling so this course could be useful even if you are more interested in writing for film, TV or novels. All experience levels are welcome, whether you’re brand new to playwriting or you’ve written many plays and are looking for different perspectives on writing or the motivation to finish another show.

Previously I wrote the plays The Get Together and Jezebel, which was produced by Rough Magic, toured Ireland, the UK and France and won the Stewart Parker New Writers Award. I’ve taught playwriting before with the Tenderfoot programme. I’m also an actor, improviser and filmmaker.
