Secondary School Gallery Tours using VTS

Tuesdays – Fridays, various times available, Junior & Senior Cycle, €2 per student, booking essential, duration: 90mins

Broaden creative thinking through oral and visual literacy by exploring works in our current exhibition by Irish artist Sinéad Mhaonaigh. Using Visual Thinking Strategies, this is an opportunity for students to investigate, analyse and reflect on multiple perspectives, and assist in the development of imaginative and innovative ideas. Using cross-curricular links and learning through art, these sessions support the Junior and Senior Cycle, placing students at the centre of the learning process. Upon visiting Solstice, Senior Cycle students will receive specific information that embraces the three strands – Research, Create and Respond (visual and written responses), with particular focus on Content Area 3: Today’s World of the New Appreciating Art Visual Studies for Leaving Certificate curriculum.

We encourage students and teachers to combine this tour with a free ‘In Conversation with the artist’ gallery event. More here: _________________

Guided by Deirdre, our learning and engagement coordinator, use Visual Thinking Strategies to expand pupils’ thoughts on ‘what’s going on in these artworks’.

Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) is an inquiry-based method of visual processing – looking, describing and discussing what we see in a work of art. It is about listening to others, responding and expanding thoughts and new possibilities revealed within group engagement. VTS improves oral and visual literacy, problem solving and collaborative interactions among peers. Suitable for all ages, VTS tours are best with groups of 5 or more.
