By Eisa Davis at The Lir Academy
1955, Boonville, California. An orphaned, multi-racial girl grows up in a predominantly white town with its own invented dialect.Bulrusher’s beginnings as an abandoned baby in a river basket and subsequent gift for clairvoyance make her feel like a stranger among the strange. Attempts to navigate her neighbours become increasingly difficult until a mysterious black woman from Alabama arrives in town. Together they unearth the secrets and racial tensions lying just beneath Boonvilles’ surface, and Bulrusher discovers an entirely new sense of self.
