The Banbha Quartet is one of several fine new Irish quartets promoted by the National String Quartet Foundation and establishing an exciting reputation amongst audiences throughout the country. For this tour, they bring a fascinating repertoire: Haydn’s ground-breaking and masterly Op.20 set of quartets from 1772; Grażyna Bacewicz’s Quartet No. 4, one of the best known by the Polish violinist/composer who was a leading figure in Poland’s musical life during and after the Second World War; Jane O’Leary’s ‘Forever Begin’, which was written in 2020 as ‘a sort of fanfare for strings – conveying a sense of excitement, anticipation, hope and’; and finally, Dvořák’s popular and irrepressible ‘American’ quartet celebrates the composer’s new-found enjoyment of American folk music.
