Galway Arts Centre is seeking applications from skilled and motivated individuals to join a Technical Panel that will work with Galway Arts Centre and its programmes and festivals: Galway Youth Theatre, Cúirt International Festival of Literature and Red Bird Youth Collective.

The Role: To be placed on a panel of technicians to be called to work on a casual basis in our performance space in Nuns Island Theatre, our gallery spaces at number 47 Dominick Street and off-site locations or venues as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide general technical support as required during the get-in, installation, presentation and get-outs of shows and exhibitions requiring the use of technical resources;
  • Provide preventative maintenance and improvement measures for the venues lighting, stage and sound equipment during annual maintenance programme
  • Operation of lighting, sound and AV on live events, performances and seminars
  • Installation of art exhibits and AV set ups for the visual arts programme
  • General stage/set work involving manual handling

Desired Experience in the theatre and / or visual arts environment

Applicants should have technical experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience of visual art-handling (installing, crating, packing etc.) and installing audio visual equipment
  • Stage experience in sound, lighting or stage management
  • Set building
  • Digital / AV experience
  • Venue technician experience
  • Experience of programming and operating Eos based lighting consoles and Qlab software
  • Experience of programming and operating analogue and digital mixers (X32, M32 etc…)
  • Experience in audio-visual equipment operation, maintenance and repair
  • Experience of rigging lighting, sound and audio-visual equipment
  • The ability to work at height and/or hold a current valid M.E.W.P. licence

Candidates should also be:

  • Willing to work flexible hours on evenings and weekends
  • Respond to a varying workload by managing tasks and time efficiently
  • A good team player and an excellent timekeeper.
