GAZE International LGBTQIA+ Film Festival

Come and join GAZE Film Festival as our Festival Intern.

For over three decades, GAZE Film Festival has been a cultural pillar of the Irish LGBTQIA+ community. GAZE celebrates the finest LGBTQIA+ cinema, developing the art form for artists and filmmakers, and creating an annual shared cultural space for the community. Each year we present over 25 screenings including features, documentaries, short film programmes, panels, industry events, workshops and social spaces to discuss and celebrate film and the art of storytelling in an LGBTQIA+ context.

GAZE is recruiting a Festival Intern to assist with aspects of festival programming and delivery, including programme curation. The role offers an opportunity to learn and develop your knowledge of film curation, event production and film festivals. The Programming Intern will primarily work with the Festival Director.

Responsibilities include:

– First viewing and consideration of a specific number of films submitted to the festival.

– Confident copy writing and copy editing for brochure and website content.

– The opportunity to introduce films at the 2024 festival.

– Vital ad hoc support to the Festival Director, Festival Manager and Assistant Programmer as appropriate.

– Some social media and newsletter input.

Person specification:

– Demonstrable knowledge and interest in LGBTQIA film.

– Confident cultural and aesthetic passion and opinions about cinema.

– Familiarity with film and cinema vocabulary.

– Confident with budgets and literacy.

– Excellent time management.

– Ability to prioritise.

– Willingness to learn.

The festival dates for 2024 are Wednesday 31st July to Monday 5th August. The internship will start as soon as possible and continue until the end of August 2024. The internship is intended to be managed around candidate’s other commitments such as work or study. The fee for the internship is €1,500 and a work plan and opportunities for professional development will be agreed with the appointed candidate.

There will be regular check-ins with Festival Director and Festival Manager to support and prioritise. Work takes place remotely with most meetings online and some in person in Dublin, and the candidate should be able to be in Dublin for all the festival dates.
